After reading a local fellow food blog review today and some feedback from a group of friend’s recent trip, my girlfriend and partner for trying new lunch places for the foodie blog and I decided to give this place a shot ourselves.
Located in the old Looper’s Subs building at 1395 East Lafayette Street in Tallahassee, FL, Vertigo Burgers & Fries offers a small manageable menu of specialty burgers and side items. They even serve beer and wine for those non back to work lunches! Perfect for a business trying to get a start without all the frills and fuss. With a selection of 12 different burgers, salads, a few starters (a/k/a appetizers), local favorite sides like sweet potato fries, hand cut french fries, onion rings and treats. Special note for this local place, they are only open Tuesday through Sunday.
My girlfriend and I were in the mood for just a good old-fashioned regular burger so we opted for the “Straight Up” which is a beef burger, american cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, mustard & ketchup (hold the tomato for us) with a side of the hand cut french fries (they even come in half orders for less guilt) and a soda. Total for this all american type lunch was just $12 and free refills on those drinks! $12 bucks you say . . . well, it’s not a chain restaurant and quality sometimes costs more! They post their cooking policy right at the register, but you should note that they serve all their burgers medium unless otherwise specified by the customer.
First of all, Vertigo Burgers & Fries has the yummiest buns, which they get from Tom Cat Bakery for their burgers, and they hold up to the goodness of the burger and all of its toppings. They lightly toast the bun before serving your selection of burger which makes it even more Y-U-M-M-Y! The half order of fries, that were not greasy, were just enough for one person without feeling like you overate that great indulgence of fried goodness. On this day, since I had already chosen to go all out with a burger and fries, what goes better but a fountain Coca-Cola!?! Notably, I never drink sodas for any reason, but I made an exception for this meal. Free refills, yes please. And for fountain drink lovers, they have the “good” ice!
The atmosphere was great. They offer a couple of bar type seating areas for customers to sit along with a few high top tables, regular tables and a few spots of outdoor seating with umbrellas. A clean locally owned restaurant and very friendly service. My only complaint during my visit, the parking is miserable (not the restaurant’s fault), so get there early if you are going for lunch.
My girlfriend’s quote, “It was super good!” So get out there my fellow local food lovers and check this place out for yourself!
