Another downtown dine local lunch option is taking it straight from the local farm with their “Farm to Table” daily lunch specials!  Recently, I had the pleasure of joining the Director of Sales for Hotel Duval, Pam Bauer, and enjoying a wonderful Farm to Table lunch at LeRoc Bistro at Hotel Duval.

Located inside Hotel Duval in Downtown Tallahassee at 415 North Monroe Street, LeRoc Bistro has joined the get local food revolution with their lunch specials that feature meat, seafood, dairy and produce from local farmers in our area.  Offering an array of options for breakfast and lunch, and for those of you that need your coffee fix but in walking distance, they proudly brew Starbucks coffee blends.  Dine in, take out, group seating, reservations or walk-in’s, this little Bistro even offers the convenience of table service for your dining pleasure.

Having spent my wedding night and my first anniversary with Hotel Duval, and often enjoying their rooftop bar, Level8 Lounge, I was anxious to get more information on this little gem.  So for a more detailed informative lunch to learn about the Bistro and its background I called upon my friend Pam and she invited me to lunch.  We chose a Friday, which the Bistro Manager, Amber Schultheis said generally features a seafood Farm to Table special.  I arrived at Hotel Duval around noon and was greeted with a friendly smile and promptly seated in the prime people watching place at the front windows in their very “mod” style white leather chairs and steel dining table.

The Bistro table server promptly took our drink order then returned to tell us about the Farm to Table special for the day which happened to be fresh line caught Apalachicola Grouper Tacos and Yucca Fries served with a side of homemade slaw and mojo sauce for dipping.  The Grouper was served grilled and on a shell with a simple cabbage mixture along side Yucca Fries, which admittedly I have never tried but loved!  No drowning sauces here, all fresh and Devine!  On the lunch menu, that includes salads and sandwiches, they also offer options for the diners that choose to have a little adult beverage with their lunch, listing several wine and beer selections as well as tea and soda options.

While we were enjoying our lunch and chatting about the local Tallahassee foodie scene, we were greeted by Executive Chef, Chris Leynes, and wanting to get more information on where they buy their meat, seafood, dairy and produce I asked directly at the ordering source.  Chef Chris informed me that they get most of their items from the local Orchard Pond Organics and from Green Industries in Monticello, Florida.  They proudly buy their fresh Florida seafood from Southern Seafood Market which also has a retail store in Market Square and their meats from local area farms that offer wholesale restaurant sales.  I was very pleased to learn that they also feature dairy products from the fantastic Sweet Grass Dairy in Thomasville, Georgia, a local dairy that takes pride in how they treat their animals, a dairy which I have toured first hand.

A bit of information that I learned so that I could pass along about Executive Chef, Chris Leynes was that he attended Florida State University and graduated from the Hospitality Program.  Working for years at the University Center Club, he joined Hotel Duval when they opened.  With no formal chef training, Chef Chris works diligently to express his culinary talents in each dish he creates.  The locally owned LeRoc Bistro allows him to venture away from a streamline franchise menu and create dishes that we can all enjoy from local farmers.

LeRoc Bistro is open Monday through Sunday from 6 am until 4 pm and serve walk in customers in addition to hotel guests.  They have a wonderful breakfast menu which also features another local Tallahassee favorite, Bradley’s Sausage, and call it the Bradley’s Benedict.  It consists of a grit cake topped with Bradley’s Sausage, poached eggs and their hollandaise sauce.  I have had the pleasure of enjoying this delicious breakfast entrée and it is amazing!  Depending on the amount of guests they have at the hotel each weekend and certain holidays, they sometimes offer Brunch.  You can call ahead and find out if they are serving Sunday Brunch by calling them at (850) 224-6000.

Hoping to get the word out that they are not just serving dishes for hotel guests, LeRoc Bistro began featuring their specials through social media in hopes it will make them another downtown goto dining place.  So the next time you are thinking about breakfast and/or  lunch and want to try something new with a little local flair, drop in and check out LeRoc Bistro at Hotel Duval and “Like” their Facebook page or “Follow” them on Twitter to get the daily Farm to Table special posted each morning.
