For what is becoming a Sunday tradition for some girlfriends, we ventured out this past Sunday to a locally owned restaurant and lounge for some lunch and pre work week libations.  We found ourselves at a local japanese staple, the Velvet Lounge in Kitcho Japanese Restaurant.

Kitcho Japanese Restaurant and the Velvet Lounge is in the Market District in Tallahassee, FL at 1415 Thomasville Road, #121, locally owned by Yuichi Morie, owner and head sushi chef they have been open for more than 15 years.  From the outside you would never guess this restaurant has so much inside elegance, from its dimmed lighting and a relaxed atmosphere to a full separate bar complete with velvet couches, this laid back restaurant and lounge is very inviting and full of friendly faces and servers.  Clean and newly renovated in some areas, I was glad to be included in this Sunday outing.

When we arrived we found a friendly bartender serving up some happy hour drinks and decided to give it a try.  We noticed that he was also enjoying an early appetizer dinner before the rush crowd which was Shumai, 6 steamed or fried shrimp dumplings (I got an order of them, they were amazing).  Soon other local patrons joined us at the bar and ordered off the bar menu.  One dish in particular stood out to me and I will have to try when I return.  It was the Ishiyaki, which is Angus filet cooked at the table on a heated stone with sesame croshi sauce.  It smelled and looked amazing!

After a bit of girl talk and laughs at the bar we decided to try what the bartender called the Velvet Crawl shot, which is orange vodka, grand marnier, orange juice and a splash sprite.  It was really good especially for someone who does not do shots EVER!  Bar food not your thing?  Enjoy the full dinner menu in the Velvet Lounge while enjoying the adult atmosphere.

Offering happy hour specials from 5 – 7 pm and a second happy hour from 10:30 pm – 12:30 am Monday through Sunday along with hospitality nights Friday and Saturday evenings, Kitcho is worth a shot (no pun intended).  Also open for lunch and dinner with a variety of items from sushi to tempura and salads to desserts.  We found this restaurant to serve fresh, quality dishes.  Kitcho also has seating available for large parties or celebrations.  Give them a call at (850) 893-7686 to set up ahead of time or grab a girlfriend (or boyfriend) or your special group of friends (Girls Night Out) and go give them a try!
