Today begins a new month, May. A busy month beginning the Summer months ahead, my oldest stepson’s birthday, Mother’s Day and my Mom’s last Chemotherapy treatment (hopefully the last ever!) to treat her Ovarian Cancer. This month is on tap to be pretty special!
I have some leftover excitement from April, which included notification that I was accepted to run the Chicago Marathon in October!!! One of my Bucket List races that I am getting to work on training for starting this week!! Run life is getting pretty exciting even if I will be training through the grueling hot and humid Florida summer!
We were extremely excited to learn that my oldest was accepted and offered scholarship to the Vermont Law School, which he will leave in July to make his way up and begin Grad School. We are beyond proud of all he has accomplished in his academic career and today happens to also be his 23rd birthday! A small get together is planned to celebrate with all of his favorite vegan/vegetarian dishes out for him to enjoy.
Next weekend, May 10th is Mother’s Day and also marks the last week of my Mom’s Chemotherapy treatment (May 7th) for her Ovarian Cancer. It has been such a long emotional road for her that began the week before Christmas (for some that seems short, but not to us!) and through hair-loss, painful treatments and some other side effects that have brought down her energy, she has stayed so amazingly strong and inspiring, never allowing this to kill her spirit! I am so incredibly proud to call her Mama! #Headwraps&RedLipstick!
With Mother’s Day approaching so quickly, I was excited to get the opportunity to try some wonderful Mother’s Day gift giving ideas from my friends at uncommongoods. I received the Story of the Earth 7-piece bracelet set and the Happy Feet Spa Set, which both products exceeded my expectations. The bracelets were adorable and eclectic, just up my ally, and the Happy Feet Spa Set was just that! Both products under $40, were such a great value for a gift basket idea that I have in mind for gift giving.
Happy Feet Spa Set includes soap, pumice stone and a brush all wrapped up in an adorable gift box that can go straight to your Mom or placed in a basket of goodies. My runner feet really loved the gentle exfoliation that the pumice stone offered and did not create the normal irritation that some other products have in the past.
The Story of the Earth 7-piece Bracelet Set was totally adorable. I’ve gotten hooked on multiple bracelet wearing each day and this bundle of cuteness did not disappoint. There was a little extra time needed to get all of them on, but not undoable as some of the reviews alluded to on the website. It just takes a little patience, which I think is well worth it. Handcrafted bracelets that come with a little story book about the Earth and all the elements.
Here is a little background about the uncommongoods company –
Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, UncommonGoods is an privately-owned retailer that endeavors to feature unique designs and handcrafted gifts created in harmony with the environment and without harm to animals or people. We run all our operations out of the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal, including our warehouse where the lowest-paid seasonal worker starts at 50% above the minimum wage. We make it our mission to support and provide a platform for artists and designers; in fact, half of what we sell is made by hand. Most of the products we carry are created right here in the USA, and about one-third of our entire collection incorporates recycled and/or upcycled materials. At the core of our company is a great respect for the integrity of the creative individual and the belief that it is our responsibility to use our business to impact the world in a positive way.
