Recently after months of a girlfriend trying to convince me to make time to go in and try a local Thai restaurant, we were able to make Sunday dinner plans and give it a try together. Located in the Festival Plaza, at 2740 Capital Circle NE, Tallahassee, FL, Reangthai Restaurant is a locally owned Thai restaurant that is run by owner and chef, Donna. Reangthai Restaurant has been open at its current location for the past 15 years striving to offer fresh, amazing dishes with exceptional service. They advertise that they use all fresh ingredients without the use of preservatives, yes NO MSG here folks!
The night we tried it, we were promptly greeted by the host/server and seated in the quiet and quaint dining room. Our server promptly took our drink order and returned to tell us about the night’s specials. Interrupted momentarily by Chef Donna herself, she greeted my new face with a warm smile and welcomed back my girlfriend who frequents the restaurant with her boyfriend. This quaint little restaurant also has a full bar for those looking for a little libation with their dinner.
After looking over the menu, I found one of my favorites the Mongolian Beef that includes onions, green onions and sweet and sour soy sauce and I decided to try that Medium Thai (a little spice to get your nose running, but not too much to ruin the meal). My girlfriend decided she would go with a dish she has had before, the Firehouse Chicken, that’s Thai basil, ground chicken, matchstick carrots, mushrooms and Thai heat! We split the Thai Green Salad which consisted of lettuce, tomatoes, green onions, matchstick carrots, broccoli and peanut sauce, A-MAZING! Their dishes are served family style and offer plenty for sharing if you choose. A moderately priced restaurant, it is definitely worth the money for the quality of food you get.
So how was the food!?! My Mongolian Beef was the freshest I have ever had. An avid lover of a large chain, which shall remain nameless in this blog, I loved that Reangthai’s version was not over powered by sweet sauce and had just the right amount of heat. After dinner I never felt like the food was just sitting in my gut as I have found with the other large chain restaurant. The salad, fresh and crisp, keeps you coming back for the crunch and the peanut sauce is divine!
Reangthai Restaurant is open for lunch Tuesday through Friday from 11 am – 2 pm, for dinner Monday through Saturday from 5-10 pm and Sundays from 5-8 pm. They do have large party seating available with reservations and happily welcome them, make your reservations by calling (850) 386-7898 or grab a companion and go check out this divine little local place.
The day after our dinner trip I found myself daydreaming of going back. Needless to say, I will be making another trip to the Thai side of dining at Reangthai very soon and will venture out of my norm and check out a new dish. You cannot beat the quality of the food at this place, truly, it is a must try!
