What an amazing (yet chilly 30 degree) hometown race morning it was! The 22nd Annual Run for the Cookies 5k was my first official 5k in my running journey that began 4 years ago. This race benefits the Big Bend Girl Scouts and, oh yeah, you get COOKIES!
I was excited to be racing at home this week, coming off my Ragnar race weekend and I got to run with some of my favorite ladies and as a bonus my husband came along for support!
We started the chilly race morning at 7:30 am and headed to Tallahassee Community College to grab my bib and meet up with the other runner ladies!
This year was a new to me course revision, since last year I missed this race as I was attempting to run my first marathon in Jacksonville. I was happy to be back, and interested to see what the new course would bring. Certified as one of the fastest courses, flat and fast, it is a challenge for me.
As we started the race I struggled to relax my breathing for the first mile. Finally I slowed up a bit and caught my stride. I was excited to get to pass so many inspiring faces on the out and back course, it helped push me to keep going.
When we approached the last half mile, my lungs started burning and my legs were tired. I knew he finish line was just around the corner and my Hubs would be waiting to cheer me through the finish. I pushed on . . .
One of my slower finishes at 31:54, I was happy to have another awesome running day under my belt!
The Hubs and I stopped off on the way home for a little refueling and are excited to enjoy the rest of this gorgeous Florida weekend ahead!
Next up for me, Gasparilla in Tampa with my friends Diane M. and Becky S. Until then, I wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day and swift feet and happy runner hearts! xo
